Because my daughter was not given the choice.
Blakely’s Choice Foundation exists to ensure that every patient and family has a voice, a choice, and a meaningful opportunity to obtain the medical care they need. Inspired by Blakely’s journey—where access to another medical opinion and a different level of care ultimately led her family to answers and treatment—the Foundation works to prevent other families from feeling trapped within a healthcare system when a patient’s condition remains unresolved.
Our mission is to advocate for timely access to appropriate specialists, second opinions, alternative providers, and higher levels of care; help families navigate complex healthcare systems and overcome barriers to diagnosis and treatment; and provide education, resources, and direct support to patients and caregivers. We serve individuals across the lifespan, from medically complex children to vulnerable and geriatric adults, with particular attention to patients whose symptoms, diagnoses, or treatment concerns remain unresolved.
Blakely’s Choice Foundation also seeks to advance patient safety and improve healthcare outcomes through research, responsible collection and analysis of patient-experience and healthcare data, public education, and collaboration with medical professionals, researchers, hospitals, and community organizations. By identifying patterns in delayed diagnoses, barriers to specialty care, gaps in communication, and other obstacles affecting patients, we aim to turn individual experiences into meaningful improvements in care.
At the heart of our mission is a simple principle: when answers have not been found, patients and families should have the ability to keep searching for them. No family should be denied the opportunity to seek another qualified medical opinion simply because of where their care began. Blakely’s Choice Foundation exists to help families understand their options, find appropriate resources, advocate effectively, and pursue the care their loved ones needs.
